Fling Details

Keep in mind that student safety takes priority—take advantage of the medical facilities if needed. Student safety is our primary concern and each of you can help to keep the Fling environment safe. Never hesitate to call for medical help if needed (511 from a Penn phone or 215-573-3333 from an outside phone). No student will face disciplinary action for requesting or seeking medical help. To provide additional on-site medical support, there will be an EMT unit and medical observation area set up in McClelland Hall each day during Fling hours.

Note the designated entry doors for Ware Residents and the Fling Guest Policy. In order to respect the living space of Quad residents as well as to insure usable restrooms, the way in which students access their building will be modified for Spring Fling. From 11:00 am until 7:00 pm on both Friday and Saturday, the exterior doors to each building in the Quad will remain locked, with Allied Guards and Penn staff at each door so that only residents and their Spring Fling Guest Pass holding guests will be permitted to enter. See the list below for the location of your building entrance. Therefore please note that if you, as a Quad resident, are hosting a guest, that guest must have a valid Spring Fling Guest Pass and must be accompanied by you to gain entry to the buildings. Penn students who are not residents of the Quad buildings will not be allowed into the buildings during the hours listed above. Please see Spring Fling rules and policies for information and fees regarding Guest Passes.

Understand the consequences of illegal activity. As always, the consumption of alcohol by underage guests or residents is strictly forbidden. If you have been involved in a previous residential incident, your sanction may be more severe and your fine may be doubled. Hosts of parties, the owner(s) of the room, and students in a room where underage alcohol or marijuana consumption takes place will addressed by PENN administration/staff/and or Penn Police. Fines will be imposed on any resident who “hosts” a party involving illegal substances or underage drinking or who stockpiles alcohol. Remember that even students who are 21 or older may not have alcohol in the presence of anyone under the age of 21 and will face the same fines and sanctions. Anyone refusing to provide valid ID will be fined, as well. Please note that all Quad Houses will be imposing fines for “hosting”, leaving the incident without permission, or non-compliance. These fines start at $100 per incident for hosting a gathering involving underage drinking, and $50 per incident per individual for individuals attending these gatherings. This year, students or guests who are not allowed inside the Quad buildings will be fined $50, may also be subject to removal from the Quad, and have their Fling Pass privileges revoked.

Remember that you are responsible for what happens in your room, even if you are not present. If you are the occupant a room where violations occur, you will be documented as a host. Be careful about letting someone use your room. You need to know what is taking place in your space at all times and be responsible for it. If you are concerned that activities may be taking place during Fling without your consent, please contact your RA or GA in advance.

Always be ready to produce valid ID. Anyone inside a room or in the building must produce either a valid Penn ID or Fling Pass when requested by RA/GA staff, CHAS administration, Allied Security Guards, or Penn Police. No other kind of ID is acceptable during Fling Weekend. Refusal to immediately produce acceptable ID will result in immediate eviction. Carry your Penn ID with you at all times. Remember, if you have sponsored someone for a Fling pass, you are responsible for their actions and behavior during Fling. Also, when inside the Quad buildings, a host must remain with the sponsored guest(s) at all times.

Lounges and public spaces will be locked and outside balconies and ledges are off limits. All of our public lounges and public spaces (with the exception of Mobo on Friday) will be locked starting Thursday evening. There will be outdoor portable toilets for all guess and non-residents located in the lower Quad adjacent to the 36th Street entrance. Administration officials will reopen all lounges and public spaces on Monday morning. The Computer Lab will also be closed for the weekend and will reopen on Sunday afternoon.

Have fun—in a good way—but take care of yourself and your property. Enjoy the food, the games, and the entertainment. Fling is designed to be a celebratory and fun event. But, the event draws large crowds and not every visitor will show respect for our home. Protect your personal property and space. Keep your doors locked at all times and do not admit strangers into the building or into your room. If you need help, call the Quad Information Desk at 215-898-6886. Also, should you witness any dangerous or illegal activity or need more urgent assistance do not hesitate to call UPPD/Public Safety (511 from a Penn phone or 215-573-3333 from an outside phone).

Please, if you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to Ware staff.

Have fun and represent Ware well!
