DWIP - Medical Student Panel

What:

Hi Ware Residents,

Next Tuesday, we will be having DWIP with three guest speakers from the Perelman School of Medicine. All three are first years at PSOM and they are willing to come network, and offer advice to students interested in careers in medicine. Food will be catered, and fun will be had. Please RSVP Below if interested!

Islam Elsaid, MS1 MD/PhD

Islam is a 1st year MD/PhD student at Penn who originally hails from Brooklyn, NY. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Cornell University where he majored in Chemistry and minored in Arabic. Prior to coming to Penn, he worked for two years at Weill Cornell Medical College conducting research in Alzheimer's disease and atherosclerosis. At Penn, he serves as one of the SNMA Academic Co-Chairs, is heavily involved with SIDE (Students for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity), serves on the Wellness Committee, and is one of the CDY1 Class Representatives for the MD/PhD program. Outside of science and medicine, he enjoys playing basketball and soccer, loves listening to music, and always tries to fit time in to play video games or board games.

Alex Thomson, MS1

Alex is an MS1 at the Perelman School of Medicine. Originally from London, England, he grew up in the Middle East and Southeast Asia before attending high school in the Northeast US (which is a polite way of saying New Jersey). After undergrad in London and a Master's at Oxford, he moved to New York City to work as a research epidemiologist. He is the first student in memory to be accepted to Penn Med without a US or Canadian college degree. He has no idea what specialty to choose but is pretty sure OB/GYN ain't it.

Madelyn Hansen, MS1

Madelyn studied nutritional sciences and Spanish at the University of Georgia for her undergraduate degree and is now an MS1 at the Perelman School of Medicine interested in radiology and global health. At Perelman, she volunteers for Puentes de Salud (nonprofit Latino clinic), assists with neuroradiology research, co-coordinates the Foundations of Culinary Medicine course, and helps run the interventional radiology and global health interest groups. She is also a competitive powerlifter.
