Welcome to Penn and Ware!  I’m so excited to be returning as a GA in Ware and I’m looking forward to meeting all of you soon!

My name is Dee (he, him, his); I’m a Ph.D. student in the Literacy, Culture, and International Education Division at the Graduate School of Education, also pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience from the Center for Neuroscience and Society.  Before coming to Penn, I obtained my master's degree in Literature and Creative Writing from Harvard University.  Prior to that, I had earned a bilingual (English and French) bachelor's degree in Performing Arts from the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon.  I also studied Modern Greek language and Theatre Arts at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece; and film editing at the New York Film Academy, Hollywood, CA, branch.

My journey to Penn started in Cameroon where I was born and raised.  I lived in Greece and Germany and traveled quite a bit in Europe before immigrating to the United States.  I’ve worked in the film industry in Southern California and Austin, Texas.  I founded and managed a film production and graphics design company and co-owned another.  I also worked for some years in business management—for the U.S. Department of Defense's Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Morale Welfare Recreation (MWR); and for the Decurion Corporation's ArcLight Hollywood.  Believing in the transformative power of education, I co-founded a nonprofit in 2012 called Educate a Child in Africa, Inc. that promotes multiliteracies in primary education in Africa through innovative, culturally sustaining play-and-learn activities, family and community engagement programs, and other initiatives.  As you can tell, I have diverse interests!

I’ve been quite mobile in the U.S.  I’ve lived and/or worked in several states, including: California (Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, North Hollywood, Venice, Fort Irwin, and San Diego); Texas (Austin, Fort Hood, and Killeen); South Carolina (Fort Jackson); Massachusetts (Boston); New York (Philadelphia—yes, there is a Philadelphia in the state of NY!); and Hawaii (Honolulu).

My passion as a GA is to foster an inclusive community undergirded by kindness where we can all respect, learn from, care for, and support each other.  I always love to learn; feel free to stop by and let’s chat about (almost :)) anything!
