Welcome to Penn and Ware! My name is Chasen Shao, and I am a returning Resident Advisor here in Ware College House. I look forward to getting to know you all throughout the course of the year through residential programming and various activities hosted by Ware and Penn throughout the year!
Although I have spent a majority of my life in Philadelphia and the suburb of Cherry Hill NJ, I have had a somewhat diverse upbringing. I was born in China, but at the age of four, I moved to Louisville, KY, where I spent the majority of my childhood (Go Cards by the way!). After that, my father found a job here at Penn, so I attended Penn Alexander Elementary School (right down the street from the end of Locust walk, near 44th and Locust). For middle school and high school, my parents moved to Cherry Hill, NJ, which is basically Philly, and even has its own fake Philly Cheesesteak restaurant. During my freshman year of college, my parents moved again, so I now call Cincinnati home. As you can see, I have been in many places during my life, and I would love to talk to anyone about my experiences or my experience with coming to a new place, as college often is.
Here at Penn, I am a Chemistry Major, and am pursuing a degree with honors. I am actively involved in research and have spent time at CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia) and the Perelman Medical School here at Penn. This year, I am working in Dr. Marmorstein's lab at the Perelman Medical School, with a focus on the development of polymer-protein dimers in proteins that are implicated in melanoma. Outside of school and research, I am an avid runner, and really love the scenic Schuylkill Trail route to the famous Art Museum. (Hmu if you want to join me at any time!) I am also a Philly sports fan, so TRUST THE PROCESS, Eagles all day...you get the deal. Marvel comics are my jam so I guess that means DC comics are my peanut butter, but if you want to talk comics, let me know -- I'd love to chat!
Finally, welcome to Ware, the best college house ever, and I look forward to meeting all you lovely people in August!!!!
