Ware's 8th Annual Picnic at Opera on the Mall
What:
Join Professor Helen Davies and Emilie Anderson
for
Ware College House's Eighth Annual Picnic at Opera on the Mall
Saturday, September 29th
We will depart the Quad at 5:30 pm for Independence Mall, where we will picnic along side the Liberty Bell before viewing the telecast in front of Independence Hall.
This year Philadelphia Opera has chosen We Shall Not Be Moved, which premiered at O17 with seven sold-out performances, then went on to Harlem’s Apollo Theater and Amsterdam’s Opera Forward Festival, where it was presented by Dutch National Opera, and proved that this timely, Philadelphia-based work could also find relevance with the wider international community. A fusion of disciplines and genres, the score of We Shall Not Be Moved blends funk, rock, hip-hop, and classical music into a vital, experiential sonic form. This timely exploration of past and present struggles combines spoken word, contemporary movement, video projection, classical, R&B and jazz singing, and a brooding, often joyful score filled with place, purpose, and possibility.
Depart Lower Quad Gate - 5:30 PM
Ware and Professor Davies will provide transportation, tickets and food.
