Prof Davies Hosts Tour and Recital at the Curtis Institute

What:

Join Prof Helen Davies for a behind the scened look at one of Philadelphia's musical institutions.

We will depart from the lower quad gate at 3:40 pm and return to campus in the evening around 8:30 pm.

The Curtis Institute of Music is a private conservatory in Philadelphia that offers courses of study leading to a performance diploma, Bachelor of MusicMaster of Music in Opera, or Professional Studies Certificate in Opera. It is among the most selective institutes of higher education in the world with an admissions rate between 4 and 5%. In addition, Curtis students can take math or science courses at Penn and, in return, Curtis works with the Penn's music department to play new compositions.

Schedule:

Arrive at Curtis at 4 - small snack, paper work, name tags, that sort of thing

4:15 short video and then a tour of new building - Lenfest Hall
There will be a student on the tour who can answer the sorts of questions that people like to ask students.
The focus on the first part of the tour will be the world wide impact of this very small school

Then we'll walk down the street to the Main building built during the Guilded Age
Focus will be on how Curtis started and became so influential
