Dinners With Interesting People
What:
Dear fellow Quad residents,
At Dinners With Interesting People on Tuesday, 10/17/2017, the featured guest will be Dmitri Tymoczko. RSVP here to join us for dinner.
Dmitri is a composer and music theorist who teaches at Princeton.
His contributions to music theory include two articles in Science ("The Geometry of Musical Chords" and "Generalized Voice-Leading Spaces"), a book (A Geometry of Music), and a set of demonstration videos such as "Chopin on a Mobius Strip".
He's also used computer analysis of large datasets of digital scores to explore the structures implicit in what composers and musicians actually do -- see e.g. "Rock Logic"; "A Study on the Origins of Harmonic Tonality"; "An Information Theoretic Approach to Chord Categorization and Functional Harmony".
Albums of his music include Beat Therapy, Crackpot Hymnal, and more.
See you there!
