Dinners With Interesting People: Utsav

What:

This week, the featured guest at Dinners With Interesting People is Utsav Schurmans, who is Senior Associate Director of Research and Scholars Programs at the Wharton School, and a former house dean of Ware College House.

Utsav manages the Undergraduate Division’s research and scholars initiatives and works to promote research experiences for all Wharton undergraduate students. Specifically, he oversees the Joseph Wharton Scholars and Wharton Research Scholars programs as well as the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research and the Social Impact Research Program. He also works closely with faculty from the Wharton Faculty Council for Undergraduate Research, and is a liaison to the University with respect to undergraduate research initiatives. Even if you're not from Wharton, Utsav is a great source of advice about undergraduate research.

Utsav has a PhD from Penn in archeology, and is a particular expert in stone tool creation across the millennia -- see Schurmans et al. "Advances in geometric modeling and feature extraction on pots, rocks and bones for representation and query via the internet", or "Fitting Rocks: Lithic Refitting Examined".

To join us for dinner on Tuesday 12/5/2017 in the McClelland South Lounge from 6:00 to 7:30, please RSVP here.
